Wellness Isn't About Achieving a Perfect Balance - It's About Creating a Life that Recharges You

When you hear the word wellness, what comes to mind?

For some people, it's eating healthier, exercising, or booking the occasional spa day. For others, it's simply finding a few quiet moments in an otherwise busy week. The truth is, wellness isn't one-size-fits-all. It's personal, and it evolves throughout our lives.

As the owner of Wild Air Skincare for more than 20 years, wellness has always been at the heart of what I do. Every product we create is designed to encourage people to slow down, care for their skin, and enjoy a few moments of calm. But if I'm being honest, running a small business doesn't always leave much time for practicing what I preach.

Like many entrepreneurs, I know what it's like to juggle endless responsibilities. There are products to make, customers to serve, emails to answer, and new ideas constantly competing for attention. Finding the elusive work-life balance can feel impossible.

Over time, I've realized something important.

Balance isn't something you achieve once and then keep forever. Some weeks require more of us than others, and that's okay.

Making Time for My Own Wellness Journey

A few years before 2020, I made a conscious decision to begin prioritizing my own wellness journey. My boys were grown, life was entering a new chapter, and I knew it was time to invest in activities that challenged me creatively while helping me recharge mentally.

Photography has always been one of those passions.

Instead of saying "I'll do it someday," I decided to fully commit. I enrolled in classes with one of my favorite photographers, started bringing my camera to work, and began exploring during lunch breaks and after work.

Photography has become much more than a hobby. It helps me slow down, notice the seasons, and appreciate the beauty that's surrounds me here in New England.

This fall, I'll be attending an immersive three-day photography workshop, and I couldn't be more excited to continue learning.

Small Wellness Habits Make the Biggest Difference

Over the years, I've learned that wellness habits don't have to be dramatic to make a meaningful impact.

For me, wellness also means spending quality time with my aging parents, exploring some of my favorite Rhode Island beaches and coastal towns, playing pickleball with friends, and yes—occasionally treating myself to a relaxing spa day.

These moments don't eliminate stress, but they help me manage it. They remind me that taking care of myself isn't selfish—it's necessary.

When I return to work, I'm more creative, more focused, and ultimately better able to serve our customers.

Wellness Looks Different for Everyone

One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that self-care isn't about perfection.

It's about intentionally making room for the people, places, and activities that restore your energy and help you become your best self.

There is always room to grow, always room to change, and always an opportunity to discover something new that brings you joy.

At Wild Air Skincare, we believe caring for your skin is just one part of caring for yourself. True wellness extends far beyond the products we use—it's found in the experiences we create and the lives we intentionally build.
